Acupuncture is a thousands of years-old Chinese Medicine modality that requires the use of fine, hair-thin needles to stimulate acupuncture points that are chosen based on your individual needs.

Acupuncture works with your body’s own intelligence to alleviate ailments ranging from hormonal dysregulation to chronic and acute pain to digestion issues to insomnia and much, much more.

How does acupuncture work?

What you’ll feel

Acupuncture is virtually pain-free. At AMMA, fine, high quality needles are used to prioritize patient comfort. You may feel the initial insertion of the needle.

After the needle is inserted, it’s a mixed bag. Some patients drift off for a midday “needle nap” without any sensations felt. Some patients feel the needles working—warm sensations, slight pulling sensations, or even a feeling of energy “moving” through the body.

What the needles are doing

  • Releases natural pain killers

  • Modulates how the brain perceives and regulates pain signals

  • Regulates autonomic (stress & relaxation) response

  • Influences immune system signaling and regulation

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Supports local tissue healing responses
